Spring fresh toxins!

Let March be fabric softener-free month!!
You eat your broccoli to reduce your risk of cancer but do you still use fabric softener? Take the one month challenge and say no to those nasty dryer sheets for 31 days and let me know about it!
WHY????
Fabric Softeners and dryer sheets are full of harmful chemicals such as Camphor, Chloroform, Alpha-Terpineol, Benzyl Acetate and many more. These hazardous substances can be absorbed by inhalation or through the skin. But will it make you softer?! No, however these chemicals have potential to cause nausea, vomiting, liver or kidney damage, skin disorders, cancer and impair respiratory function. Is it really worth it?
Personally, I've never used the stuff and our clothes are just fine and our lungs better off.
Give it a go and say no to fabric softener!!

Awareness is the key, As you have pointed out chemicals in the fabric softener that dont make sense to common man should never be bought. Lets make it a habit to read the ingredients in what ever we buy. good luck

There are green alternatives to fabric softener! Go to www.grinningplanet.com, click on "environmental", scroll to the bottom, click on "more environmental articles, click "view by category", click on "home" and scroll down to fabric softeners.

Just thought of letting you know that Casades Tissues are now available in stores near you and is made up of 100% recycled fibres and if every canadian family switched just one roll of toilet paper made of 100% virgin fibres to one one roll of 100% recycled fibres, nearly 50,000 trees would be saved. Its also avoids releasing chlorine into the enviroment.

My mother never used dryer sheets, and either do I. It bothers me when I can smell my neighbours doing their laundry. It makes bad air. I can't understand why anyone would bother with the added expense anyway.

I stopped using Airfreshners. They are loaded with poisonous chemicals and simply mask odors by killing smell receptor in your nose. A specific chemical called 1,4-Dichlorobenzene or 1;4-DCB is harmful to lungs. this chemical is also found in mothballs, toilet deos. because it affects lungs thes chemicals also increase risk factors for heart disease, stroke and other imune diseases.

I've been experimenting with organic fragrances, that I purchased from an aromatherapy section of a health food store.
Its doesn't really work that well in the dryer, so I just spray the scent to on my clothing.

I also found a curious thing called soapnuts, its comes from India and Nepal. its totally natural. Its supposed to act as a detergent. A bit too overpriced, though. I have some if anyone wants to try, but they didn't work that well.

I wasn't able to post a comment using the internet explorer browser, but the netscape foxfire works fine for me.

Fluoride is one of the most poisonous substances on planet earth. Its is basically a byproduct and toxic waste developed in the production of phosphate fertilizers. and yet floride is being dumped into our drinking water under the guise it gives us less tooth decay and cavities. Drinking this water can supress thyroid function, when thyroid function is reduced it leads to tiredness, depression, weight gain, MS, CP, Lupus, cancer. To avoid any disease or prevent disease drink filtered water or bottled spring water, Thats what I do and i would like to share this with you all so it can protect you and your family.

Think about this way, how much can you run away from disease or chemicals in food etc. When powerful companies only think about making profits. Genetic engineering and spraying chemical poisons all over food, so that crops wont be damaged by disease or insects. The soil is loaded with chemicals to make plants grow faster or animals are pumped full of growth hormone. These companies will do anything to make profits. Their objective is to make food as addicting as possible. the good news is that knowing the truth allows you to take simple steps in life.

In addition to floride, chlorine is used to kill microorganism in water. We too are microorganism if you think about it only we receive it in small doses leading to all illness mentioned above.

I've never liked fabric softner or dryer sheets, why waste the money. My goal for the month is to hang at least 5 items from each load. Also, we have smart meters, so I'm trying to do laundry in the evening when the rates are lower. My next steps is to buy enviromentaly friendly detergents.

My front loading washing machine uses less water and electricity in the first place but it also spins the clothes to the point that any fleece or synthetic fibers are practically dry and natural fibers such as cotton require very little drying time.

Check out the space saving ecodri clothes drying rack at www.ecodri.com. It's a rack that attaches to the ceiling where the air is dryer and warmer. A simply pulley raises and lowers the rack when needed. Right now we are using the standard foldable drying racks that also work just fine.

Fabric Softener and Bounce Sheets Be Gone. I hate them!

I have stopped drinking diet coke and yogurt that contains Aspartame and food with MSG. both are clasified as excitotoxins. Artificial sweeteners make you gain weight and contribute to other health problems. Remember all carbonate drinks block calcium absorption

Adding living plants into your home adds oxygen to the air and produces incredible benefits to your health and well being. fill you home with living plants and flowers and you will feel the difference the moment you do it. I have done it

lets all try and be enviromentalist in some way or the other. we all breath the same air and drink the same water, so lets labor and fulfill our duties here on earth to make it a better place for our future.

To the person who asked about vinegar as a fabric softener, I have been using vinegar in my laundry rinse water for years now, and am very happy with it. Most municipal or rural water is very hard, which means it contains dissolved minerals that make soap and detergent less easy to use. If you add laundry conditioners such as washing soda or baking soda to your laundry, you will soften the water and make the soap or detergent more effective. Vinegar is also a good water conditioner, and serves as an excellent neutralizer of the alkaline conditioners such as baking soda or washing soda.

For each load, add about half a cup of vinegar in the fabric softener dispenser of a standard washing machine.

For more information on eco-friendly laundering, check out consumer advocate Debra Lynn Dadd's website and blog at www.dld123.com
